I was at the Milwaukee show the morning of the 20th, and got to see the new Big Tiller handle, and talk to the Mercury people there. Consequently, I have ordered a 75hp Opti to re-power my 17' Lund, and can't wait to get my hands on that motor (and handle) and really see what this rig can do.

There are no decibel ratings printed for the engines, unfortunately. However, the Mercury FourStroke will be considerably more quiet than the Optimax. The Optimax does have some noise dampeners under the cowl but it is still a 2 Stroke engine at heart. On the flipside, there should not be much difference in throttle response between the Optimax and FourStroke engines.

Just attended the Cincinnati Boat Show. I don't remember seeing a Mercury booth but I would have liked to ask a question. All of the manufacturers always compare their engines to the competitors. I'd like to know how Optimax compares to the 4-Stroke. I'm looking at a new pontoon (22' - 24') and I'm curious about db levels of the 90hp-115hp. I know the 4-Stroke is probably slower throttle response but is it that much quieter?
